What are Dental Veneers?
We can help you have the look of perfect teeth with the use of dental veneers. Veneers are used to hide all the damage that can naturally occur from regular use, including chips, fractures, and stains. Additionally, veneers can hide problems such as gaps, size shape, and even placement. Our staff at Myers Dental would love to show you the difference we can make in the look of your teeth with dental veneers.
Dental veneers are a common cosmetic dentistry procedure and are a thin shell of porcelain that we can adhere to the face of your teeth. They can be shaped to match your teeth, or altered to fit the size and shape you are looking for. Some patients want to have their teeth evened; others are looking to close gaps, some may want to hide damage and others want to cover stains. There are so many ways that dental veneers can benefit your look and perfect your smile.
Who can get dental veneers?
Anyone can get dental veneers. The placement of dental veneers is a non-surgical procedure, meaning they there are no cuts and there is nothing to heal from. Dental veneers are for anyone who is trying to improve the look of one, multiple, or all of their front teeth.
In general, veneers are used for the most visible front eight teeth. With them we can:
||Close Gaps: Do you have a noticeable gap between your teeth? We can make the veneers slightly wider to close that gap perfecting your look.
||Make Teeth Appear Straighter, Longer or Shorter: The veneer material allows us to play with their look, if your teeth are uneven, not straight, or too short or long, we can hide all of that with dental veneers, giving you a perfect look.
||Hide Stains: For some patients, they may not have a tone to their teeth that looks clean and bright, this can just be your natural color, or from years of smoking or coffee consumption, the use of a number of medications, or if the patient has fluorosis which is a condition that causes streaking in the teeth, we can cover it up and give you perfect looking teeth.
How are dental veneers placed?
The process for placing veneers is done over two office visits. At your first visit, we will determine what you are looking for. We will then create a mold of your teeth with the information of what you want. We will then reduce your natural tooth structure to accommodate the veneer and etch it for better bonding. The changes made to the natural tooth are permanent. At this first appointment, with the tooth reduced in size, we will place a temporary veneer. The mold is then sent to a dental lab for the fabrication of the veneer.
Once we have received the veneer, often between 1-2 weeks, we will the contact you for an appointment for placement. We will remove the temporary veneer, and check the fit of the new permanent veneer. We can make any adjustments during this time for proper bite. Once ready, we then place a dental cement on the natural tooth and adhere the veneer, using a blue light to assist in setting the cement for a firm hold.
Dental veneers should last the patient for several years, but we will check their status at each check-up appointment.
