Teeth Whitening

What whitening options do you offer?

There are two different options of teeth whitening that we offer. One is an in office procedure called Zoom Whitening, and the other option is a Take-Home Whitening kit.

What is Zoom Whitening?

Zoom Whitening is an in-office procedure that is performed by a dental professional. The procedure usually takes between 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. It is a relativiely simple procedure. It begins with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. The Zoom clinician then applies the Zoom whitening gel with an active ingredient of hydrogen peroxide that is designed to be used with a specific type of light. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, the oxygen enters the enamel and dentin of the tooth, and breaks up stains and discoloration. The Zoom light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it to penetrate the surface of the tooth.

How long do the results last?

By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best we recommend flossing, brushing twice a day, and occasional touch-ups with Zoom Weekender or Nite White gels which are supplied to you if you choose to have the Zoom whitening done.

Are there any side effects?

Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate.

What about the Take-Home whitening system?

The take-home whitening system consists of special trays custom made by our office to fit specifically to your teeth and a take home bleach kit. The bleach kit contains three syringes that you will use to apply the bleach into the trays, and then place the trays over your teeth. The bleaching process will be a little different for every person, but generally the trays are worn for one hour twice daily until the desired results are reached.

What is involved in receiving the whitening kit?

If you are already a patient of Dr. Myers, it takes two appointments to receive the Take-Home Whitening kit. The first appointment takes about 20 minutes, where we take impressions of your teeth in order to custom make your bleaching trays. The second appointment is a short appointment where give you the trays and make sure that they fit correctly. We also give you the Bleaching Kit to take home. At this time, we will go over the instructions of how to bleach correctly in order to get the desired results.

What if I am not a patient of Dr. Myers?

If you are not yet a patient of Dr. Myers, and would like to receive either the Take-Home Bleaching Kit or have the Zoom in office whitening done, we first require a comprehensive exam done by Dr. Myers. We also recommend that you have your teeth professionally cleaned before starting a whitening system because it allows the whitening gels to penetrate the teeth more successfully which generates whiter results. The comprehensive exam can be scheduled on its own or we can schedule the dental cleaning and exam together in one appointment.

How Do I Schedule an Appointment?

To schedule an appointment or for more information, please call our office at (512) 506-9430, and one of our staff members would be delighted to help you.

What Results Can I Expect?

Both of the whitening systems we offer yield excellent results. With the Zoom In-Office Whitening, the results show immediately as soon as your procedure is done, and with the Take-Home kit, it will take a few weeks to see the results.
