The Importance of Brushing Your Teeth Before Bed

 

Do you brush your teeth religiously in the morning but don't usually get around to it before bed? You could be putting your teeth in danger. According to the American Dental Association, it is crucial that you brush at least twice a day in addition to flossing regularly. Therefore, if you want to have fresh breath and to maintain your glowing smile, it is important that you make sure to brush your teeth before you call it a night.



As you progress through your day, all of the foods you eat and beverages that you drink will create bacteria that grow and accumulated. This is known as plaque, and if left untreated, it can cause cavities and gum disease to develop. Brushing is crucial to remove plaque, and it also prevents plaque from later becoming tartar. This hard, yellow matter can cause gum bleeding and inflammation, and eventually, you could lose your teeth.

So, if you forget to brush your teeth for just one night, is it really a problem? Unfortunately, the answer is yes, as it only takes skipping a brushing one time for the formation of a cavity to begin. If you continue to neglect brushing for multiple nights, this habit could become quite dangerous for your oral health. You should also consider the quality of your brushing, as failing to brush properly right before bed could be just as bad as not brushing at all.

Regardless of how badly you just want to crawl into bed at the end of a long day, brushing before you turn in is crucial for a healthy oral hygiene routine. Take the extra two minutes to brush, making sure that all of the surfaces of your teeth are scrubbed thoroughly. Brushing is the best way to fight against tooth decay and other major oral health problems.
