The Importance of Staying Calm During a Dental Emergency

If you freak out whenever something goes awry, then you need to do your best to prepare yourself for the time where you face a dental emergency. You never want to freak out when you are facing a dental emergency, as panicking is only going to make the situation worse.

Do your best to keep your wits about you, keep your blood pressure down, and focus on what is happening in that moment.

Panicking During a Dental Emergency Can Make Everything Worse

Blood pressure can make a big difference when you are facing a dental emergency. If you are able to keep it down, you are less likely to add to the bleeding if there is any, and the pain is typically easier to manage when you can manage your blood pressure, too.

If you are too focused on the fact that something went wrong, you may not think about what you are doing and could end up making whatever happened worse. Take a breath, figure out what you need to do first, and react. If you take that breath first, you are going to be able to think more clearly and make better decisions.

When in doubt following any type of a dental emergency, call your dentist and have him or her tell you specifically what you should do, step by step. Follow their guidelines and go into their office as soon as they can see you. Then, you can sit back and react while they fix whatever happened.

A dental emergency does not need to turn into a major problem, but it will if you are not able to keep your mind focused and your thoughts clear. Take the advice of your dentist, bring everything with you that they said to have, and get seen. It will all be in the past soon enough.
